After buying our first chicks at TSC and rearing them in the sunroom until feathered out and I got the coop and run built we've had them staying outside for a while now. That first night when I last checked on them they were chirping away as they wanted to come inside. I must admit I was nervous about what I may or may not find the next morning! Bout grown now size wise and almost mature enough to start laying I can't wait for the first eggs. In fact we have a family lottery going...every one has picked a date. I find it easier to relax just sitting outside and watching them do...well what chickens do! Our four Production Red hens...uhhh make that three cause one turned out to be a rooster have definitely become a part of our family for me. I didn't think it could be that much to it but the more I read the less I realize I knew. We've come by three more now apparently mixed breed chicks from my daughter-in-laws kindergarden project. I've got another project to build them a coop and run. What has begun and where it will go I don't know but it's fun!

Something about that chicken addiction...just can't have enough. I have 6 sex links and wish I could get more. Unfortunately, my coop and run aren't large enough for more. I could put more in, but I want them to have plenty of room. I also have a small yard. If I lived in the country with plenty of land, I would definitely get more. It is exciting waiting for that first egg and I like the idea of the family lottery. Are you giving away a prize? Your daughter-in-law is lucky to have you build her a coop and run. And yes, chickens are fun and quite entertaining, and also great therapy!
