I found that my gourds and pumpkins and squash, etc all like full sun, rich soil, and lots of water!! Last year it rained so much all summer, i thought they would rot, but instead i got the best crop in 6 years! LOL
I had gourds sprout in my compost bin, and had so many i took them to the Milford swap in September and sold a bunch.

Jonathan went out the door at 7 am, Katherine not far behind. She came in for most of the afternoon but Mr Outdoor stayed out in it.

I'm going to see if I can stop by next weekend too. I'm not sure I'll have anything to sell yet.

I will also be going to Windsor on the 30th! See you and Sarah tomorrow morning.

They prefer sun. It's also almost impossible to kill them. Not even my dreaded vine borers could do that a couple years ago. I didn't even plant the gourds, they were volunteers.

They went over a 3' fence in 5 directions. One vine climbed up 6' onto the deck. Another followed the fence for 20'. Two went over the fence, down a staircase, up a 6 foot high lilac hedge and into a maple tree. I had gourds hanging 12 feet off the ground. The other vines escaped the fence and ran rampant over the lawn.

I think I ended up with 60-70 of them everywhere.

My neighbors would KILL me. We had pumpkins a few years ago.. that werent ours, but the neighbors. Thing grew up the side of the house to the second floor window. If it hadnt kept scaring me to death every other night I would have loved it.
Probably no events for us this year. Working full time out of the house, is making my weekends extra busy. Which is really kinda nice. Ya know.. weekly paychecks and all.

The girls are getting upgrades made to their coop and run this summer. And we are getting a new roof, driveway, back door and some other toys. Plus we are planning a NYC trip along with other "events"
