OK THE ONE YOU ARE GETTING ALONG WITH SOME OTHER OF MY SILKIES, I PUT THEM ON TOP OF A CAGE IN THE BARN at night and they stay there until we let them out. so if you put her on teh roost she may be fine. sorry for teh caps. lol

I'm not sure what you mean (sorry!) So do you think that she may go on the roost? Or that I would have to literally put her up there but then she would sit up there? If so, would she be able to get down from the roosting pole by herself? Would it be better getting another silkie for her instead to cuddle on the floor instead (or too...)? does it matter? What do you think?

Thanks so much for putting up with me, I feel so needy right now!

LOL, Thats ok.
you could either 1 put her on the roost and she will stay there and she will jump down in teh morning as long as it is not so high, i woul dnot roost her if teh roost is more than 2 feet tall, becouse of there wing feathers they dont fly that great and tehy land on there breast bone.
or 2 get another silkie so they can cuddle together.

You don't have any other silkies you are willing to sell, do you? Color doesn't really matter, just female and *ideally* not too too young so they can maybe both go outside at the same time. If not, I'll have to hope someone has some when I get there. Do many people sell silkies there?

Is the area you have the bator in really dry? Check the humidity/temp in the room too. We can not put much extra water at hatching at all and if we let the little giant go above 50% they drown and are very sticky. The sportsman is my favorite for everything, but it's a pain if I have to set another batch of eggs and cull out with ones in the hatching tray-lose too much heat/humidity, next year I am just going to invest in the hatcher.

Are they coming through the inner membrane and just not making it through or never get that far? If your aircell is to big at hatching time they may not be able to reach the outer shell without help.

Sorry you are having such a hard time, took us many tries with several bators before we found what worked best for us and the environment here. Than is still sometimes isn't right, this year has been harder than last for us too.

Needed to edit because it's early.....

THe humidity in the living room is allways at about 45-50%, They didnt make it through the membranes and the thing is the membrane was not dry and there was not a lot of moisture in the membrane. Air cells were varied in size. I am wondering if setting them in the egg cartons is the problem??? It just makes it so easy to tip the bator onstead of opening to roll the eggs by hand. I think I will try some eggs on their sides one more time befor I give up. I just feel like I killed them because my biggest fear is not being able to breath for whatever reason and to think of them suffocating really upsets me to the brink of tears.

That humidity should be fine, that's what ours runs. We just use a spray bottle and spray them on mist everytime we need to open or even a couple times a day if they are getting dry during the last three days, we use no added water other than the daily mist in the small hatcher, the big one we just use one water tray and the same thing mist them.

Oh don't give up I know it is very heartbreaking when they are almost there and don't make it

You will get it. The flock isn't laying great right now but can bring you some eggs to play with if you aren't picky about breed, can do banty or std whichever, you will get it don't give up, takes some time to figure what works for you is all. We have never tried the egg cartons before all ours have the tuners (I'd be in big trouble we would forget to turn them for sure), the sportsman of course has the fan and one of the little giants also does.

I'll be offline until Sunday morning (taking my daughter camoping with the girl scouts) but will check in when ZI get home and hope for a silkie listing, lol
