ooh ok, so that is what they mean by "production red"??? I have seen that before.

Thanks for the info! But even someone who replied saying it was a production red called it a production red rooster. I guess we'll see.

When I bought them, I asked what they were and they said RRI (course they also said they were pullets and that is debatable now!), but are they technically production reds?

I just looked them up and red all of the following: they can be mean/bossy/tempermental/foul disposition/tore up other hens.. yup. I really love my sweet gentle RSL's... let's just say that I would miss the RSL's a lot more if they were the ones that ended up being boys!!!!

At what age do RIR get the saddle feathers or something that would determine gender? They will only be 7 1/2 weeks.

(I keep editing as I think of more! lol)

production reds are RIR Comets, NHR or any of the before mentioned chickens, there can even be Leg Horns thrown into the mix., creating the various color sex linked chicks. sex linked is when one barred rooster is used and the hen is of a different breed,.
not knowing whats behind making the chicken from a hatchery there is no definate way you can claim the combs are too red or wattles too red on a chick, until it does one ofd 2 things, crows or lays an egg.

Hey folks, turns out I have a previous engagement this weekend, so I won't be making it on Sunday...

In other news, does anyone know if there are any more shows between now and the next Poultry Expo in November? Also, any of you seasoned show-goers have any tips for me? I want to get some practice with the whole showing thing...

Thanks!
