I also have been toying with the idea of selling my bators and sticking to buying what I want at swaps. That way I dont have to be the chick killer and can buy chicks old enought to go outside without sacrificing my studio space to them and the dust they make any more!!

Well I want a different bator, I really wanted a Brinsea to begin with but they were really expensive, I am just going to save up and buy the one I wanted in the first place. Hatching has been frustrating but rewarding, I don't like giving up

You shouldn't either! Your not a chick killer, nature of the beast. If everything lived we would be in trouble. Some things just are not meant to be. Plus you know you would miss the weee little babies!

I agree not everything lives, no matter how hard you try to force the issue.
I just had a poult die in the shell, wasnt stuck, pipped and died, no rhyme no reason, it happens to the best of hatches, out of almost 30 turkey eggs that have
made it to pip I have lost 3 to shell death, and I have 3 in the brooder which will go no where that have some sort of infection? shell damage to an eye? one turkey poult is blind on one side.
Jackie is asking her vet if he/she has seen this before and how to treat, right now its coffee grounds in a paper towel every 4 hours.
its heart breaking, frustrating and makes you want to kick something or someone, but its all part of learning experience and life,
none of us like it, but we continue on with hopes of having a better than good hatch.

hehe, this is why i've sold my bator and i've been sticking with the broody hens! i just had 10 out of 12 eggs hatch this past week. i would have had all 12 if mom hadn't crushed one while it was hatching and one egg i thought was an early quitter and cracked it open to find out it was just delayed like the last 2 eggs that just hatched yesterday and today! broody #2 hatched out those last 2 and she still has 14 eggs left under her developing and she is still dedicated to them, and i'm sure she will sit on them till the last one is done hatching!

and i have yet to have any issues with chicks being aloof towards me when they know that i'm the one that brings the treats and food for both them and mom!

He is going to kill me once he figures out I posted the picture online! Its the only chick I have ever seen him pick up completely on his own. Has a soft spot for this little guy...I think he is slowly coming over to my crazy chicken lady ways.

He even single handedly made a pool for the ducks yesterday, that drains out the stall door, and doesn't make a mess. He likes the ducks alot, but I can't tell anybody...OOOPS!

Hi all,
Does anyone have a few 8-14 week old pullets they'd be willing to part with? I need 1-3, preferably different breeds or colors and the fluffier the better. I lost my fav to a hawk and the kids are devastated. Run has been roofed but I need to replace her if possible. Would love another faverolle or a cochin and wouldn't mind getting a sexlink in the mix, either.

Yes, I know you guys are right, but it kills me to know they made it to the oint of living out of the egg only to suffocate in there because mayne I did somthing wrong with the humidity. Laura is bringing me a fe weggs to give it another go and someone else had offered a few for me, so I will tye and do this one more time and see what happens. I wish I had broody hens, but I only have 2 that ever seem to lay and then go broody and when I had marked some eggs and sneeked them under them one time, I found the eggs were allways rolled out into the floor of the coop! LOL

Now I need to worry about a momma skunk that Wayne saw walking under the shed this morning!
