cuckoo marans don't always get those nice dark eggs like the other colors. many are from hatchery stock when you find them locally. and if they are from good lines they certainly would sell them for a pretty penny! i'd like to find some good quality cuckoo marans for my project with the favs. now if my dh and space would allow me to have more birds i would love to go in on your order. but alas, i have to hold back on that for now.

I was planning on bringing my little baby (hatched 7/20) to the swap. It is only a week and a half away. S/he is 6 weeks old (so will be 7 1/2). Mom is a silkie but dad had regular feathers and baby does too. I was hoping someone would have an idea whether people may be able to sex him/her for me next week or if I would need to wait til next month.

I'm not looking for sexing via video (though if you have an idea, I'll hear it! lol) but whether s/he is old enough to tell in person next week. Thanks !

S/he also has a toe boo-boo that I wonder is ok or not. Hopefully maybe someone can tell me what that is at the swap too, so I know whether I have to do anything for it or not. My point-n-shoot camera stinks and doesn't do macro photos so I can't get a pic of it.

eta: she is so cute scratching in the carpet! lol good practice for later I guess. I wanted to let her get bigger before I put her out with the "big girls". Plus if she is turns out to be a he, then he just won't go out with them at all. Also, she has a little silkie comb (walnut?) starting and I can see a tiny spot where wattles will come. Not sure if this means roo or not at this point? She doesn't have blue earlobes, would she by now or no?

Ahh haa. I've been talking to Jenny but I didn't know their/her/his last name

It's good to get a positive review even though I wasn't too concerned about buying from them. From our communications, I feel quite comfortable with buying from them. I don't mind spending the money either. My main concern is if I were to end up with lots of roosters that cost me $19 each (that's the discounted rate I was generously offered) and I had to rehome them it would be like throwing away sooooo much money. My land just can't support more than two roosters and I already have one.

Yeah, I did realize the cuckoos don't get as dark and that she was from a local "breeder" that wasn't a serious breeder. I took a chance and only paid $5 for the chicks so it wasn't a total loss. I also have a welsummer/cuckoo marans "mix" and her eggs are easily #4 on the scale but she rarely lays anymore and she's only 3 years old

Well, Chickie if you change your mind please let me know. I'm going to keep trying to find someone to share the order

Eventually I'll have the space to actually set up some breeding pens for the rare breeds I find so intriguing.
