Believe me Jackie, I can sympathize more than you know. They have made such a comeback in population according to my friends husband that is a F&G agent. Now they are actually competing with each other for food because there are so many. Start to feed the crows, they will keep them away. i called out to my crows and once again they are hanging around the yard again and I havent seen a hawk since over a week when it had my roo in the snow trying to make a snow angel out of him!
ETA...send out that hawk killa dog! LOL

Yes, they definitely sit and watch and come back. They are very smart. Get some cracked corn and spread it in an area away from the barn. All you need is the presence of the crows flying around and the hawks seem to stay away becasue the crows (not realizing the hawks can easily eviscerate them) will pester the hawks and they stay away for a wile!

I wonder if playing a crow-calling CD will keep hawks away. Maybe you can even get crow decoys to go along with it. That is if you don't have crows hanging around your yard all the time.

No, I have the decoys and the hawk actually sat next to it on the frnce one day. The real crows will torture the hawks and that is what drives them away. They are too smart and will know a recording and the fake crows. I am hating them more.

In the short 2 mile drive from the town center to the Westford line I saw 5 redtails and 1 sharpshinned hawk sitting in trees along the road. Wonder how many more are out there.

Then there's the tree near the center that's decorated from top to bottom with wild turkeys.

I had 2 big boys flying around yesterday, both Redtail...and 2 HUGE coyotes....Atleast I found the critters that took my favorite Roo. If they come back they are dog meat. Waaaay to comfortable with coming right up into the horse pen. Not a good deal.

Anybody have any idea how to get rid of the little sparrows, I have A TON. And they are eating me out of house and home. I hate the little buggers, their poop is all over the place and in my chicken feeder. I have a 30 lb, galvanized feeder. Any ideas on how to keep them out, they shoot right into the chicken coop door and into the coop...

Just don't get caught:

This site has some interesting info on HOSP and ways to erradicate them. I think these are what are making our birds have all the respiratory issues we all seem to be having lately. Some of this can be disturbing to read, but house sparrows are not considered part of the migratory bird act so you can "terminate" them.
I think I could never do it, I would just get more cats of course!
