A pair of them patrolled the yard and across the street for about 20 minutes while she was here, so she got a good look. She was happy to finally see one!

We have lots of them here too and you should see the damage to the trees they do! Big pines look like swiss cheese logs and a lot snapped over this past winter and one is ready to go with a good wind, and if it does, it will fall into the road and I hope no one is driving past when that happens!

I like to watch them, along with all our other woodpeckers. We had up to 8 at a time (downy, hairy and red bellied) on our suet feeders this winter.

I just put 90 eggs in the Dickey. Let's see how long it takes for them to commit me.

Don't curse me just yet! I've had a fair number of pullets hatch this year so far.

If not then the roo fairy will eat well.

Hi Everyone!!

How did you all weather the winter up there?

Darbellla, Shay, and Jose are you all going to the May 1st show? I'm finally back on my feet again after spending the winter at Tufts in Boston I felt like a MA resident for awhile there

Hope to see you all soon!

Hi Beth!!! How are you, missed seeing you on here. I am probably skipping the show and hitting the swap in Westford up near me this turn. After that last time at that show, all my birds seemed tocome down with that weird uRI and a lot of other people had that same thing too it seemed. Could be coincidence, maybe, maybe not, but I will pass on a show this time round.

I think the commited offense level for a dicky is 200 minimum, or the equivalent would be if you run 4 hovabators at the same time...then you are a gonner!

Alright what the heck is uri? Now you've got me nervous!!! I haven't signed up yet for the show and now I'm wondering what to do. My flock is super clean and all tested for the NPIP Program. Tell me more about this Westford, MA thingy? I've never heard of it.

The Northeast Avicultural Society holds a meeting and a swap the first Sunday of each month, except for July and August, at the Westford Sportsman's Club. You have to be a member to sell but anyone can buy. You can find just about anything with wings there - cage birds, chickens, turkeys, game birds, waterfowl, etc - along with rabbits, supplies and even goats. All flocks must be tested (but yours already have).

Here's the link to the NAS

And the link to the Westford thread. As we get closer to the next swap the date will be updated and there will be more activity on the thread. The next one is May 1. Unfortunately the one in June is the same day as the Oxford show, so a lot of us have to choose one or the other!

URI = upper respiratory infection, I lost a lot fo birds to it about a month after that show. The year before I had bought some birds off these 2 guys, and they all came down with it and died, and 2 other people I know got birds from them and they also died. I stayed clear of them when I saw them there last year, but that is not to say it wasnt something either airborne or transfered from other people handilng birds from them , then handling other birds, etc, etc... By the time I finally traced back to where my birds could have been exposed, it came down to that shw but by then I had lost a lot of my flock. There were several of us that seemed to have the same issue with that darn URI that time.
