We finally have 2 baby ducklings!

Out of 13 that i set on 4/4, 8 developed, but only the 2 made it out of their shells. I was hoping for better, but this hatching thing is much harder than it looks. Last week, nothing hatched at all.

I wish my ducks would go broody, but so far only our silkie duck is willing to set. The others need to take lessons from my Seramas who are PRO-MOMMAS. ha-ha! I still have more in the bator, with some due each week this month, so we'll see if i can get better results.

Just my Seramas go broody...and hatch wonderful babies! Fortunately, i adore them!

I don't know what they would do with a duck egg or two---probably feel like they had a mountain under them! LOL One of my Seramas has more than a dozen eggs (serama eggs), she can't quite cover them all, but i noticed that tonight she has her sister, the roo, plus the 3 six-week-old chicks her sister is raising all crammed in the nest box with her! Too funny!
If my ducks did go broody, i realize it means they'll stop giving me eggs to hatch. Then again, they'd probably give me live ducklings faster than the darned incubator is.
