help! did anyone post contact info for testing services in massachusetts?
i'm a newbie to chickens, and hatched my own bantam partridge wyandottes 6 weeks ago, and have three (probable) roos i'd love to bring, but i dont know how to get them tested. also, is it too late to try? i just found the chickenstock posting now!

also, someone mentioned "the rooster guy". um....is he a BYC person? does he take free roosters off people's hands?

i love my roosters, but when they start crowing, the neighbors will have my head!
is there anyone who wants em? they're cute and hand-raised!

btw, i'm in medford ma

If they're only 6 weeks old they're too young to test. They need to be at least 4 months old.

Are you sure they are roos? Wyandottes usually take longer to sex ...

Also if you want to call for testing try 617-626-1798. I think you'll reach Megan, and she's really nice. She can help to answer any questions.

Dont they have to be from tested parents though? And if so and we bring chicks under the testable age, I think we still have to show Shay the paperwork proving that we have a tested flock.

Yes, if the parents are tested that's fine. I may be wrong, but I was under the impression the OP hatched them from purchased eggs and not her own. In that case she wouldn't have the test results.

thanks for the speedy reply!
yes, the eggs were from someone in ohio who posts to BYC--so i'll contact him to see if he has testing results i could use--is that NPIP i should ask for (assuming that is the national version?)?

Hi, I live in CT and every state has different rules. For instances in CT no one legally is allowed to purchase eggs, chicks, or adults through the mail/USPS unless you get an import number from the state, then you have to provide to the state within 2 days of rec'vd shipment an NPIP 9-3 form and a health cert for the parent stock if they are hatching eggs or chicks. There is no way to transferr ownership from old owner to new owner with test results. You would use that paperwork until your birds are of testable age to get your own test pprwk. I think for you the best thing to do is call today your local or state Dept of Ag and ask them. If you get answers from them at least you will know what your state suggests. Then if you are from out of state contact the state you are travelling to and ask their requirements. I know it sounds like alot but, in the end you could look at it as a learning experience
