Chickenstock & swaps in Ma chat thread

i may have a bantam lavender cochin cockerel with me that will be 8 weeks old by then. wonderful personality but toe feathering is a little light-only to his outer toe, but good project bird if you are looking to work with lavender. and depending on how my buffs develop i may have a cockerel from those too! very good toe feathering on them and sweet personality!

i have 2 frizzled bantam faverolles project cockerels that should be about 3 months by this swap. i hatched them out of eggs that appear to have come from a project flock but wasn't advertised as one. one boy has great 5th toes and interesting faverolles coloring coming in, but he looks to have a tuft on top of his head and hardly a beard. his brother got the cute curly beard, but his 5th toes on both feet are fused, and he turned out to be a columbian/ermine coloring! he'd make for a neat project bird but i just don't have the space for another roo in my flock.

oh no that she leaves some of her babies outside!

poor things! I always count heads and make sure all our babies got inside with momma before i shut their door. The stranded babies usually scream their little heads off anyway, which makes me go check on them. LOL But one recent extra-chilly night, i was shutting in my other pair, they have one 2 month old pullet with them that i am keeping for now. For some reason i thought they were inside and i shut their pop door. A little later i was double checking all the coops and pens for the night---my layers (differnt coop) tend to stay stay out later than the bantams....and i found the daddy Serama brooding his daughter on the platform outside the closed pop-door! Awww, he is SO sweet, such a good daddy, keeping his little one warm on such a cold night!

I opened their pop-door, but they were half-asleep already, so I had to pick them up together and set them in the nest box inside where they settled in comfortably, daddy still brooding his daughter! Gotta love it!!!!

i have a barred cochin roo that has been like that with 2 different broods of chicks. he's been good with the 2 girls i've penned him with each time they went broody. one moma decided she was done with the 2 chicks she had and jumped out of the pen i had her in with them and my Moxie stayed behind to make sure the 2 chicks were kept safe from the larger birds and keep them fed and cozy beside him.

right now he's in with my Boof and her 3 lavender chicks. the little cockerel growing out has been sooo sweet and i hope that Moxie has been teaching him to be a good mannered boy to his girls when he grows up! i may just keep the lavender boy till spring to see how he grows out if there is no interest at the swap.

I can't wait!

no?

Contact Beth G she was trying to organize a swap in CT but due to their very strict regulations regaiding poultry, she gave up. I think this is a get together of chicken friends at someones property. Not sure if there will be any "trading" of animals. CT is probably the strictest state with testing and other requirements.

Wow! I wasn't aware. I had heard something about Oct 1st. Too bad.
