What color are they?

woke this morning to see the thrid baby duck. Laura, I did mist the eggs and I confess, I "helped" the first one before I went to work yesterday. the two that are dry are blue. the last one is still wet so I am not sure but I think it is black. If I get home early enough I will take a photo.

oh shay, that color is beautiful!!! I have never seen it. maybe I should breed my lavender to my partridge to see what I get. that would be as close as I could come. lol.

Lavender X partridge gives solid black. Though if you have a blue lavender you'll get blue and black, if you have a lavender splash then you'll get all blue.

You can have both blue (or splash) and lavender on the same bird.

To see if you have a pure lavender check the feather shafts on the wings or tail. Shaft on the top side of the wing will be lighter than the shaft on the underside throughout the wing. If the shaft is the same top and bottom then there is some blue in there.

If there's blue in the parent then you can get blue offspring.

I expect you'd get solid blue in the 1st generation.

I'll play around with it in the genetics calculator. There are several different ways to get a buff bird. I do know you won't get any isabel coloring in that cross - you need 2 copies of the lav gene for it to be expressed. Now this is a typical buff silkie?

You'll get blues, and maybe some with a blue/buff combination.

Hunt around in breeds. I know there have been threads before about crossing buff and blue.
