Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

Based on that article that I think that the Dawg linked, it says that there are ways to teach your dogs to just relax (even on command) would focusing on those from a young age and making sure that your dog is regularly calm and relaxed be beneficial in high energy breeds?
For sure!! Otherwise you’ll go crazy 😂🤣 teaching it is a necessity in some breeds and individuals since they don’t know how/won’t on their own haha

I don’t like the idea, I don’t think in emergency it will do anything, and I have heard of a lot of people saying their dogs ignore it at a hight setting.

Yeah, I hear you.

If your dog ignores you, that's a training issue and not the collars problem.

the e-collar is meant to be an extension of your arms to correct your dog when they are too far away from you to communicate with

that makes sense but I would not want to hurt the dog when training

All most all my weimers in game have the wrong nose and pigment colour, they would be disqualified in shows, only one has the correct colour. How does pigment and nose colour genetics work? They are blue and the nose is supposed to be Isabella, don’t know what the pigment is meant to be.

so what it does

it CAN cause trauma to the dog. Your dog will choose what is aversive to it. Aversive means something it wants to avoid.

most dogs will not find the stimulation bothering, but really sensitive dogs might

my dog finds the act of me witholding treats from him MUCH MUCH MUCH more aversive than stimming him with a e-collar

it comes down to your dog. but no, doesn't hurt.

can it be confusing? yes. can it be uncomfortable? yes.

but it doesn't hurt. its simply a stim, and i've put my friends e-collar around my wrist and I went up to level 30, waayyy higher than most people use on their dogs. It didn't hurt. it just tighened my muscles and tickled a bit
