Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

I have a difficult breed. Lots of families ar3 not prepared for a mouthy, high drive working dog. Lots of times the pup is smarter than the people.

yeah,

I looked into PWD's before I decided on poodles. I learned that they where more slower maturing than poodles, higher energy, and way more mouthier and clingy. I didn't think it got mouthier than poodles!

I still admire them though. Such pretties.

I agree that the “English Cream” Goldens are usually always BYB dogs but TECHNICALLY cream, red, etc. ARE in the standard. The standard states that they can be basically any shade. It mentions varying shades.

Genetically, a cream dog and a deep red dog are the same color. Because the ee locus allows a huge variation in shade. It’s only really the US that is so focused specifically on the exact middle gold color but lots of shades are allowed.

The issue comes when people try to claim that the light ones or the red ones are a separate breed or “rare”, etc. They are not. Goldens can come in any shade. The issue is NOT them being out of standard. It is that they are NOT rare and usually have horrible structure and genetics. But there are plenty of reputable breeders that have lighter or darker dogs. A breeder is not a BYB solely because of the color of their dogs.
There is a legit breeder of english cream goldens right near me, she has beautiful dogs and has a wonderful breeding practice. We would get one but her wait list is like two years

They are great if you are experienced trainer, and want to do dog sports. We do conformation, obedience and rally.
