Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

Coming right up!

The full word for Conti is "continental" The Pom poms on the back of the dogs bum are meant to act as floaties as the dog swims. It keeps the dog above water. It also protects the dogs hip joints from the cold water. The pom poms on the legs protect the joints, and the big floof on the chest is meant to protect organs such as the heart. The pom on the end of the tail acts as a propeller in the water. The dog will move its tail in a circular motion under water, the pom helps move the dog faster. The Poodle was originally used as a retrieving dog in the water, that's why their coat was made for swimming. As the years went on, dogs became indoor pets, and the maintenance (and the SMELL!) of the poodles conti cut, made poodle fanciers and owners cut the coat down short. The reason the poodle, and other dogs are shown in a "Show clip" is to show off the historical origins of the breed(s).

The word poodle is from the word "pudel" which translates to water dog, fun fact!
