Hey how do you distinguish from a puppy sniffing around as a normal thing and a puppy sniffing around because they need to go to the bathroom?
especially when you first bring them home

just assume they needa pee and take them outside. If they stop focusing on something to sniff around they gotta go.

thats fine. Once they are settled in theres no reason for them to be sniffing around

Crate training
My mom works partially from home so the dog won't be in the crate for more than like 4 hours during the day max

I suggest a x-pen that the dog can stay in most of the day unless out to potty or during strucutred play time... puppies are messy and preventing them from getting in the habit of wandering off and chewing things up and going potty indoors is the best

I'll suggest it....Wouldn't an X pen give them enough space to go to the bathroom and move away from it, as opposed to not wanting to go to the bathroom in their crate?
