Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

I was about to ask what you did with Deacon but realized that you didn't have him as a puppy

Oh, I did. I just didn't know anything about dogs. We introduced him to Kennedy, a dog we had back then and they bascially became like mother and son and where joint at the hip.

Deacon used to like my grandmas 14 year old golden, but she died

he has no doggo friends now. All of the female dogs in my family are WAY too energetic for him. He likes senior girls

I thought that you got him as an adult rescue? How'd he develop such bad aggression?

I've been looking on craigslist, pet finder, and adopt a pet for a dog for months. Preferably female Puppy, young, or adult, doesn't matter. Preferably not a senior since I really want a playmate for Rosie, who is turning two.

Could be any breed, poodle, maltese, yorkie, shih tzu, etc, just has to be hypoallergenic and I'd prefer a small dog.

I'd rather not have to find a breeder, since if I get one from a breeder I'd want to find the best of the best. And the breeds that I'm looking for are already expensive as is.
And I can't find any good breeders in our area.

Is there anywhere else I could look? I've checked shelters but most of their dogs are large and not hypoallergenic.

I've looked in the whole state of Florida.

What shots do puppies need before they can play with other dogs?
Really want to let Finn play with both ND and also the GSP, as well as multiple different friends' labs
Parvo is the biggest one I think but they can interact with well trained, socialized, vaccinated dogs before that. They just can’t go to like pet stores or areas where unknown dogs might have been cause it can live for a while and is very deadly. They usually get their last round of puppy shots at around 16 weeks I think. But I’ve had Brewster interacting with my brother's 3 and the neighbor’s dog since I know they are vaccinated/well cared for and love puppies. ND is just through the fence for now since he’s so small even though they LOVE each other.

Smallest other dog that we know is ND who is not very well trained, and slightly larger lab puppy from our friend who is much better trained

We don't know any non-friendly dogs
Our neighbors have a very chill older lab that would be much larger than a puppy
Other friends have a french bulldog but a puppy might play too rough for him, he's kinda old
Puppy obedience classes are a great way to meet other similar aged dogs in a controlled, heavily supervised environment. For general socialization I also used to take mine to the park. Not a dog park, those can be risky, just a regular city park. Everyone loves puppies so I would take a little bag of treats and would let people feed him a treat and gently pet him, while keeping the puppy leashed and observing very carefully. If we saw another small dog, I would sometimes ask if it was ok for my dog to greet theirs (with both dogs on leashes and me poised to intervene if necessary).

No idea. Seems you looked everywhere, I looked myself.

I did find a few dogs that might suit you
