Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

my dog doesn't heel. I feel its cruel to make him walk next to me
I often use heel to make sure that my dogs don't get into other people's space, especially in areas with more people, but I also use an off cue where the dog is able to sniff around and have fun without having to be in the heel position.:)
Competition obedience has super strict rules, but BCs are the most popular breed for it. I'd recommend taking classes and maybe starting with rally as a good intro because it's more lax.
Speaking of classes, I finally convinced my parents to let me join training classes!:wee
I don't think they have classes for competitions, though. All I saw was obedience and behavioral training.

My dog (Lulu) has all ways pulled at other dogs, it’s not aggressive she just really wants to say hello. She has been getting better, now she only really pulls at dogs on leads (especially black dogs) she used to bark and now doesn’t most of the time. I have been trying with treats to get her to look at my instead of the dogs. First walk I tried it on it went amazingly, few walks later she’s not that interested in the treats and just ignores them if there is another dog. Any ideas what to do? I am not sure treats will work because she is not that food driven

If she pulls, turn your butt around and walk the other way until she's not turning around to look at the dog. Then go back in the right direction. She'll soon learn that pulling brings her away from the dog, not toward it. It may be helpful for her if you can have someone else bring their dog over and just sit there so that she'll eventually get the reward of meeting the other dog when she finally does it right.

That would be very hard to do and I doubt it would work, she does not get to meet many dogs unless they are off lead, so she does not get rewarded for pulling (more frequently now she will just stand stiffly and refuse to move until she either meets the dog, I pick her up or the dog goes far enough away). Now that I think of it its weird because the more off lead dogs she meets the better she gets with them

I don’t know anybody, would be useful if I could do that

Two foreign words that made it into English are gauche (from French) and sinister (from sinistra, Latin).

Both meant "left" in their original language.
