I doubt brushing will break their fur specially for just a pet dogs its fine, if you have a something like a german spitz thats show quality and you want to show it then you need to be careful of what brush you use, because it may break the ends of the hair but for pet it should be fine

Yeah, I've heard of that rule. I wanted to join competitions, so I taught heel on the left, but I am personally more used the dog being on the right. Maybe I could teach both!
