Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

I saw something very confusing...

The dog has to be either spayed or neutered in order to be registered to AKC through PAL(which is the registration you use when the dog's parents are not registered to AKC). But it appears that you can still take part in the junior showmanship.:hmm

Are you training for agility or show? I've heard from some that Samoyeds are a bit difficult to train.
They can be difficult because they are stubborn like most spitz breeds, I like the stubbornness. Dryland mushing, a bit of agility, I would like to do showmanship and maybe showing, but I am not sure we will get a show quality one and it will probably be spayed (at a year old)

I can see the logic of that.

By limiting it to spayed/neutered dogs, there will never be a question of registering puppies from such dogs, so it doesn't matter if they really have the correct genes for their breed or not. It's much easier to tell if a dog looks right than trying to judge its genes.

I think they are trying to balance two things:
--letting people & dogs participate in events
--keeping breeds "pure" with their normal registration system

This PAL listing, for spayed/neutered dogs only, is probably a good compromise to provide much of what people want, without having to completely re-write large sections of their rules.
