isn't that crossing of giant dog to tiny dog a really bad idea?

If it was a giant male and a tiny female, it would be a really bad idea.
But I notice the father is the tiny one.
So I wouldn't expect problems

Unless there are genes in one parent breed that are fine in that size of dog, but a problem in offspring that grow to a different size. (I don't know if this is likely or not.)

it's bernedoodles (bernese mountain dog x apparently toy poodle)

I’ve never heard of that doodle. I’ve only heard of the goldendoodles and labradoodles. Though to be fair I’m not really well versed in the dog world.

My friend just got two of them.

The prices are jacked a bit because the service gets a cut but $6500 for what's technically a mutt is RIDICULOUS

Do they still have a bunch of health problems? Or are they better than a lot of the other doodles?

No idea what the regular doodle problems are aside from irresponsible breeding (which this service filters out) of dogs that already have health issues

it is a bad idea, but because the sire was the small dog, its not that bad
