Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

thats god awful. The choke chain should be put on the dog in a "P" shape, otherwise the choke will not slide back loose. The choke is meant as a MILD correction for... guess what? ALREADY TRAINED DOGS!!! my well trained dog wears a choke as a reminder to not pull because dogs aren't robots, and even my well trained dog pulls ahead! Chokes aren't for out of control dogs!!

and flexies should ONLY be attached to harnesses IMO, as they lock with a button, and that can cause serious injury for a dog running forward on a choke, and it gives the dog WAY too much freedom with NO leash pressure. AWFUL!! for a untrained dog.. JEEz
When I last walked her, a week or two ago, I didn’t want to use the choke chain on her so I put on her harness and used a regular leash, and she did great on quiet streets, in the woods, and on busy roads (walk included all three). I don’t know if anything has happened since then to make her unwalkable, but she goes insane when she sees me (I give her bellyrubs and have she has never had a negative experience with me) so maybe she’s walking better otherwise.
I don’t think that they usually use the flexi, I think that they grabbed it by accident in a haste to get out of the house bc she just came out of her crate

Don't bring your dog up to other dogs. That makes it worse.

Work around other dogs with treats and praise. acknowledge the dog but don't react? treat.
He gets scared to the CORE. Doesn't even accept his favorite treats.:(
Not a single other person you know owns a dog that’s of similar size to yours?
Nope. Only my mom's friends, but they all live farther away and own extremely tiny dogs.

Yeah, maybe he was really scared also because the dogs were all allowed to be off-leash there.
Was he on leash? If they’re off and he’s on, that’s a bad mix usually. Leashes can make dogs super nervous and weird when they might be fine off. Not saying to let him off but either have them all on or all off you know?

Around 2 feet, as long as they don't really take interest in playing with him. Then I could actually give him treats in time before he gets much too anxious.
Oh wow two feet is a lot closer than I would have guessed from your description of him haha that’s amazing though! He doesn’t sound too bad then and should hopefully improve. For some dogs it’s like an entire football field away. Brew can see a person across a huge parking lot and get super duper excited just seeing them haha so two feet is great! It might help to start even further away though just to really reinforce it and everything. And make sure you’re using super high value treats like hot dogs, cheese, chicken, lunch meat, whatever. Something super yummy and amazing to associate with them haha
