Chickies cured my depression

I really didn't have anything to be depressed about, I'm very blessed. I have no idea what was causing me to feel that way, but I have been noticeably happier lately. I really think the chickens have filled some kind of void, as silly as that makes me sound. Silly or not, I'll take it

I'm glad to know that you are feeling better. It is definitely NOT silly to learn that having chickens has helped improve your mood. I am a psychologist for a school system and have a private psychotherapy practice. . . . Many other animals have been used therapeutically- dogs, cats, horses, goldfish. . . . . .. Congratulations on finding something to fill your void.

I understand exactly how you feel. Hatching chicks is very therapeutic for me and its something I can share with my daughter.
I also share a therapeutic bond with my two youngsters- like you do with yours ) Only problem is I have to make sure I don't go toooo overboard with the hatching! There are so many different breeds and not enough time/space/money. . . .

Unfortunately I have no one keeping me in check. LOL. My husband says if it makes me happy- go for it. I unfortunately had to go through all of the downs of chicken keeping. I had to euthanize a chick today and just found a snake killed my 2 favorite silkies. Greedy jerk couldn't even eat them. :'(

So sorry about that.

I had a very difficult day today. My oldest chicks are about 5 1/2 week sold, so I made some treats and put them in a pan, then spent an hour coaxing them out of the coop. It took forever, but just sitting there watching them think it over, check and recheck, then finally jump, was so peaceful. I love my chickens and I understand a lot why it's been therapeutic for you. By the end of it, when they had been out a while and we gathered them back into the coop, my problems were still there, but I was not so overwhelmed.

Sometimes we just need to take our focus off of all the negative things, and chickens are a great way to do that. Glad you're feeling a little better.
