I turned off the light today to save power and forgot to turn it back on before eve and I had to take care of business this eve.
MY oldest boy calls me and says the lights off and the 5 week olds are all trying to get under the brood hen with 14 day olds, and she was tolerating it. Normally the older chicks even think about getting close and she runs them off.
First night they didn't have a light on, we turned it back on, and in the week or so I'm going to replace the bulb with a smaller one and gradually get smaller tilll they're ready for the dark.
Its kind of cool tonight 53 degrees when I can in awhile ago. I know that by 7 weeks they shouldn't need the heat, but they're cowards and will prolly need the light.
