In the midst of all this awful weather, the chicks came from Cackle hatchery. They are Golden Comets, with a few EE's. They are BIG fluffy heathy looking chicks.

They were very irritated at being so cold when they first came, but seem to have settled down to eating and drinking.

On the unhappy side, my little old Italian Greyhound, Penny, who has been around chicks all her life, came in to do email with me, saw the box of chicks next to me, and promptly reached in and killed one.

She never did anything like this before in her life, and she is claiming that she has alzheimers and did not know what she was doing, but I don't believe it. I think she just wanted a squeaky toy that she could eat.

'This is me, Penny the Sweet!
I think killing chickies is neat!
They run all around, then they fall on the ground,
A squeaky toy that you can eat'

Penny

Sorry, I will have to lock the dogs away from the computer in the future. Penny the Poetess strikes again.

Sorry for your loss

sry for your loss, your lucky you got healthy ALIVE chicks from cackle. They are a HORRIBLE hatchery! Bad customer service, they hardly ever replace DOA chick's, and their prices are not all that good ether. But none the less enjoy your new babies!

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with Cackle. I've ordered from them for the past two years and never received a dead chick, or even one with health problems.

Well, these chicks look fine.

I have ordered from them twice, and once they seemed slow and I wasn't too happy with the chicks. That might not have been their fault, though.

It may have been the PO.

The other time they were fine, and the reason I ordered from them this time is because I wanted five EE's. The EE's I got from them before were among my best layers.

The Golden Comets are something new I am trying. BTW, it was a Golden Comet that Penny got.

The eggs I am really excited about though are the ones in the incubator. RIR's from Taterschickens.

Two hatched and fluffy and one pipping. 30 some to go.

Oh, and my little dog does not seem to be repentant at all. She is scratching at the door wanting to come in for another try right now.

Sheesh.
