Hi all, new to raising chickens here! I have the brooder, heat lamp, etc... all ready for the little ones arrival (ordered 9 and due here in about a month) I am now getting the coop built outside. It will be 8 ft by 10 ft inside and I want to use the deep litter method...my question is should I put in a wooden floor or just leave the bottom open ground? The outdoor run will be just on open ground.

I prefer a wood floor, and cover mine with vinyl flooring to protect then from moisture and to make clean up easier. Keeps varmints out, and moisture can be an issue here in the spring and fall.

Hi and welcome to BYC. You may wish to type "flooring for deep litter" in the search box or post your question on the "Coops and runs" forum.

Good luck with your impending arrival of chicks!
