I have ten 6-week old chicks integrated with mixed flock. This afternoon I saw the bin holding 6 ounces of oyster shell is empty. did not witness them eating it but had to be them. They all look spunky and well now, but I’m concerned. Should I be?
I’m familiar with the cardiovascular impact from calcium excess but what would I look for to indicate kidney or other organ impact?

Organ issues from excess calcium is something that builds up over time - I can't imagine a single (even large) dose would be enough to harm them long term.

If possible I'd move the oyster shell dispenser higher up or to a location that the chicks don't frequent, to hopefully discourage them from eating it. Do the chicks have grit available?

Yes, they have grit and go out for free range a few hours pecking “grit” from the gravel driveway. I put the OS in an area where the big girls hang out all day- that should discourage the chicks. Everyone looks normal. Thanks for the reply. :)
