Are you sure it was the insulation that killed them and not a disease/health problem? I've had birds eat packing peanuts, broken glass and one was even attempting to eat a rusty nail, but they all lived to tell the tale. Sometimes birds eat foreign objects and otherwise toxic substances to help themselves out with GI disturbances (usually worms). It's nature's way of trying to clean out the system. Have you seen any evidence of worms in the older bird? I am pretty sure the younger birds probably starved from the ingestion of the insulation, but I find it unlikely that a full grown bird would be too bothered by ingesting some insulation unless the insulation has caused a blockage or she has a heavy worm load.
