Chicks Attacked - One Dead - One with a broken wing bone sticking out. Help!

I'm glad she's eating. That's always a good sign. She'll drink when she is ready. It takes a few days for them to really recover from the stress of the shock of being attacked. The 81 mg of aspirin sounds great too! That's a baby aspirin BTW. Keep us updated!

Chickens can be quite resilient. We had a hen who the rooster and dominant hen decided needed to go. When we rescued her, she had a quarter sized exposed skull on her head from the pecking. We separated her and put a little neosporin on her and she's still with us. She is particularly resilient though, as she's at least 10 years old and has survived when all or most of the rest of the flock got killed by a raccoon raid and twice by dog attacks. She recently was missing for three days and just showed back up with signs of surviving yet another attack (she's the only one who know how and/or has the desire to get out of the protected chicken yard). I wish your girl well.

Thanks for your inspiration! I am happy that she is getting a second chance when everyone else said to wring her neck.... WHICH i could never do :(. Everyone who has responded thank you very much!!!

Yes, I couldn't kill one of mine either, even if I knew it was the kindest thing to do for the bird. When my little chick got hurt, my husband took a look at her and said we needed to give her a chance, but if she needed to be euthanized that he would take care of it for me. I was glad because the chick was one of my favorites and just could not have done it. She's doing fine and I'm so glad yours is doing well too.

Hi sorry this is going on. When you clean the wound each time don't use peroxide. It eats the tissue including good healing tissue. just a new dressing and neosporin with no cain is helpful now that it is mostly clean. (per my vet pertaining to any dog wound my Heelers encounter, which is many). A saline wash is good if it needs cleaning.

Ok thanks! Today I didn't use any peroxide on it due to the fact that it is looking really good. So i just redressed it! Thanks for everyone's help!!!!

Day 3 and she is doing great. I had her outside for some physical therapy and she ate a lot and I gave her some trout I caught today so she was super happy. I had her wrap off for that time but I re-wrapped her and put her back in the crate with the light off. I am pretty sure she is tired of staying in that crate. How long should I keep her away from her 2 sisters and 4 big sisters? They are locked in over night but can kinda free roam my backyard during the day. I will update with pictures of her wound tomorrow, Although I can still see her bone (There was no way for me to reset it back in her skin) It seems all the skin around it is healing and the bone also. Patience is a virtue I guess but sure hard. :p.

OK so just update for everyone I have not got any pictures as I have been super busy. But I reintorduced her into the flock as soon as she was trying to get out of her crate in the kitchen. She managed to poop everywhere and I figured that was a good sign she was ready to go back outside. Well 4 days later and she is doing great. Wing is healing and is not drooping to bad looks quite good. I have been keeping them more locked up so they don't wander under the fence line/tree over cover due to the fact I think a big *** owl i have seen lately was the culprit. Best of wishes and thanks all!!!
