chicks dusting

I've only had my chicks for a week and notice one of them,what looks like ,dusting in the pine shavings and spilled food,causing the others to peck the food off. Is this normal at this young age?

Plant a cake pan filled with sand or garden soil in the brooder and watch them dive in!

Chicks have an innate urge to dirt bathe just like their older sisters and brothers and will try to do it in anything available, even their crumbles if it's in an open dish.

There is nothing quite as adorable as tiny chicks churning up a storm in a small tub of sand.
