This is very true. And don’t get me started regarding what a racket these little prefab coop manufacturers have going. It is a disgrace. The heat plate I use is for 50, but the most I have put under it was 25. And that was about perfect.

Oh, I know..I could rant all day about marketing machinations ...in regards to chickens and everything else.

I use a 12x24 heating pad setup, 'pseudo heat plate', 16 was almost too many.
Worked OK for 26, but only for a few days.
But can depend on ambient temps too.
I love the pads/plates, but they can be a pretty big learning curve even for folks with chicks raising experience

I agree and was a little apprehensive when I used the heat plate the first time. I did buy the temperature adjuster with mine, after reading several reviews, and even though it wasn’t necessary in the beginning it was nice to be able to dial back the temp as they got a bit older.
**And just a note about reading reviews. Some aren’t worth the time it takes to read. I can just see dumb @SS screaming from the person’s review, as common sense definitely isn’t common!

What about the drinking water? I have read it should be room temp before giving it to newly arrived chicks (poultry). I live in the mountains our tap water is very cold I leave a container sitting out over night to get to room temp before giving it to babies in the brooder. For at least the first week?
