I recently noticed my girls digging through the horse droppings in the pasture. They only go for the 'fresh' ones. They must be looking for the tiny flies these piles seem to produce. How bad can that be?

I'm so glad there wasn't a photo included in this post.

it is perfectly fine for them. They would be looking for bugs and undigested grains. No big deal.

LOL....thats why we first got chickens. I was tired of scooping the paddock. Let those little things loose and I never had a pony-pie last more than an hour after that.

Thanks all. I was worried they might get sick. Camelot I love not cleaning the paddock every weekend, and MrsRev, I'll take a picture just for you;)

No biggie at all! Chickens have been doing that since people started keeping them. My grandpa used to throw cracked corn on piles of cowpies in the pasture to encourage the chickens to spread the manure on the field. Chicken's are gross that way- like a pig they will eat just about anything!
