Hi all,

I have just joined the forum, my neighbor gave me three shaver red chicks on Thursday.

Ginger, Sparkle and Nemo are 12 days old.

I have a few questions:

I am using paper towels over newspaper as my bedding, and my chicks started eating the paper towels today. Is this OK? What should I do?

Also, my neighbor gave me grit with the chick starter, should I be using this grit already?

Thanks

It is not ok for chicks to eat paper towel, you might try using pine shavings, kind of sift through and use the bigger pieces so they don't try to eat them.

You don't need to use grit with commercial chick starter feed, it has grit in it.

Like rooster-red said start using pine shavings, they are old enough now !! Plus the pine shaving stay so much cleaner so much longer than PT's, ohhh and the smell will be much better. Just make sure they are the pine shavings some woods arent good for chicks. Good luck !!
