Perhaps they are simply curious or need more grit. My adult birds as well as my babies eat a couple. It never had done any harm, and they don’t eat enough for it to turn into impacted crop.

Parakeet grit has oyster shell in it. I don't know if there is enough to be an issue, but... if you're gonna spend money, why not buy grit that is designed for chicks.

Not always. My oyster shells and grit comes separate from my feed mill.

Sometimes oyster shell is called soluble grit. The grit that chickens need for digestion is insoluble grit. It is not a source of dietary calcium. It is so hard that it does not readily break down in the bird's gizzard.

Oyster shell is used specifically to provide calcium. It is so soft that it dissolves in the bird's digestive system.

I wad thin it was with my grit. But you just helped it click that it is on the CALCIUM not the grit. Lol a bit mixed up.
