Chicks Eating Shavings

Perhaps they are simply curious or need more grit. My adult birds as well as my babies eat a couple. It never had done any harm, and they don’t eat enough for it to turn into impacted crop.
 
Sometimes oyster shell is called soluble grit. The grit that chickens need for digestion is insoluble grit. It is not a source of dietary calcium. It is so hard that it does not readily break down in the bird's gizzard.

I wad thin it was with my grit. But you just helped it click that it is on the CALCIUM not the grit. Lol a bit mixed up.
