Chicks eating weird things

Omg I thought they were Styrofoam :lau
Thanks for the info! I'm going to get the magnet, because I have been so worried not knowing what to do about that area. This site has really helped me a lot over these past 2 months :D so thank you BYC!

Whoa! That's not a good idea, especially the metal shavings.
While it's true just because a chicken pecks at something it doesn't mean they'll eat it, they do eat earth.
If you want to do it right put the coop somewhere else!

I wish that were a choice, unfortunately my dad gave me the choice between this spot at the house or at our business 5 minutes up the road. But I won't be able to watch them up there and make sure they are all right, or I wont be able to get to them early in the morning...
It would be very difficult to care for them the way I want to if they aren't with me at home.

Just a reminder when using the magnet. Rake lightly before using the magnet. Loosen up the screws and what not. :) sounds like you care. Keep up the great chicken keeping. Best wishes

Chickens are omnivores.

You can search BYC for “weirdest things your chickens have eaten” if you want some interesting stories (including the one about the poor teacup sized neighbor puppy that poorly chose to walk into a chicken run...).
Your hens eat one puppy and you're marked for life.:caf
