Chicks fed layer feed/cracked corn for first 6 weeks

Glad to see you rescued the chickeys & they are doing so much better.

We all have our soft spots for creatures large & small. At least you reported the guy & he had to raise his pitiful standards some. ( not enough sadly ). The mininum standards are never really good enough for people or animals. Which is sad what we allow as a culture to continue. ( yeah I know soapbox ) But as a healthcare professional & dog trainer & animal rehab person I quite often stand up for those who can't find their own voice. Best of luck with your babies enjoy them for the joy they bring you along with nice fresh eggs

My hen-hatched babies eat everything under the sun--including layer feed, cracked corn, scratch grains, and any other tidbits that mama finds for them. I don't think they've ever gotten chick feed...no point putting any out since the other birds would eat it all and the chicks wouldn't get any anyway. But the chicks with hens do much better/grow faster than the ones I raise in the brooders, so I doubt it's hurting them any.
