Chicks fighting over a tomato I tried holding it for them but they stole it right out of my hand and ran off now they have been fighting for it

You need more tomatoes.
I planted a cherry tomato plant one year and ever since, I get a volunteer pop up in the garden and I let it grow. They are great treats.
But now my chickens harass and stare at me whenever I go to the garden. Such pressure! I lob all the cherry tomatoes that have split out to them.

We used to have a pea pod plant, the chickens demolished it they loved the peas. also that’s a good idea to get a tomato plant for them.

One cherry tomato plant will provide enough tomatoes for your family, your friends and a flock of 27. At least that is the way it was for me!

I'm the type of person that has to take the tomato and break it into tiny pieces so that they all have some I can't bear any being left out. Although they probably forget about it straight away.
I don't think they ever taste their food. They literally just swallow it.

Luckily our local fruit market knows to save us unsaleable produce. My flock has spent 2 days on the last cantelope I picked up for them.

The rule here has always been if it grows out past the garden fence, it is free game. That usually provides enough to feed them quite well.
