Chicks first night in the coop!

Our low tomorrow night is 36° do I still keep them out there or let them sleep back in the garage? I don’t want to upset them since they are totally enjoying the extra sq footage in their coop. We already had a feather picking problem and have curbed it for the most part. I worry moving them back inside could start it up again.

As long as your chicks are fully feathered they will be fine. We tend to think our birds get cold like people do, but they are designed to be outdoors. They will huddle together to keep warm. The main thing is making sure your coop is draft free on cold nights, but still has the proper ventilation. They will learn to roost as they grow. I had a baby chick hatch in the coop in February during a cold snap...it dipped down to 5 degrees several times and I was worried to death. I named her Winter. She is a tough bird and is doing great. So don't loose too much sleep!

They are except for the one who got plucked. She’s growing back her feathers now though so she’s not completely bare anymore thankfully! She’s 8 weeks old now so had it not happened they would have been moved out a long time ago!

I’m so nervous for their first night in their coop! 2 are 7 weeks this Saturday and 2 are 8 this Saturday. They have been off heat and in my garage for almost 3 weeks so I know they will be fine they are just my first chickens! Our low tonight is 42° I’ll probably be a crazy person lurking with a flash light at 2am :lau
Yup, that first week I was so worried about mine. I sympathize with you!

I’ve never raised chickens before so I am so worried about everything they do haha! My feather picking problem seemed to last forever! I separated her for about a week. She still pecks at her friends but I think it’s more of a dominance thing now than a problem. I’m so glad she’s curbing her appetite for feathers! She flew up on me while I was trying to give them treats tonight.:gig C6325B53-9E89-4710-84DC-26D34121BB51.jpeg
