Our lonely little chick hatched this morning, when do they first poop? It has been drinking fine but hasn't eaten anything yet. I was wondering when normally they go to the bathroom for the first time. I checked it's vent it looks good and as I was checking it did poop a little bit of a creamy yellow color and clear liquid. I'm not sure if that's normal or not. The poor thing was the only surviving one out of all the other eggs under my Broody hen, and he was shrink-wrapped because there was not enough humidity in this Arizona Heat. I had to help assist it a bit on hatching as well, but but it did pretty well on its own.

Unfortunately I can’t answer your questions, but I am sure someone who can will be by soon. I am also in AZ and was wondering about how our low humidity affected hatching.

It's absolutely adorable!! Mine pooped within the first few hours. It was pretty much just liquid.
It didn't go at all till I was checking for pasty butt... this little baby has been through so much already and it's a a miracle that it even hatched and stayed alive. It is pretty tiny I think it's growth was stunted by the shrink wrapping. I'm just super worried about it and I don't want to die.

Thank you! I'm in mesa and it's a tiny bbs Ameraucana. I think its growth was a little stunted, poor thing. I do have some in the incubator though on day 8 so maybe it'll be the right size once they're hatched. Lol

I had a similar problem and the chick is still small, but it's thriving. Are you hand raising it or letting the mother raise it? Use your finger and tap the food, it will make the chick curious and try to eat

I am hand raising it, I was afraid to put it in there with my other chickens it being by itself. It will peck at pieces of food, but I haven't seen it eat yet.
