Chicks first poop?

I am hand raising it, I was afraid to put it in there with my other chickens it being by itself. It will peck at pieces of food, but I haven't seen it eat yet.
Other chickens will kill it, had that happen before :( good for you for hand raising!
Could the pieces be too big? I usually crush them even tinier for a couple days, they'll get the hang of it.

It's the chick starter crumble... if they were any smaller it would be dust lol.

chick to the front is brand new, has not pooped yet, the chick behind is a blue wyandotte showing the new-bee the ropes. I will name the new chick "newbee" Kinda looks like a bumble bee. If you can have an older chick show the younger one how it is done, it works out great,. The mom is still setting on an unhatched egg. The chicks are not siblings and their mom to be is not their mom.

Try putting it under the broody hen at night ..watch how she acts .
if she acts mean take it out ..she should accept it under her.
Dont put it with any of the others they will probably kill it .
If she accepts it put them together in their own cage .
Other wise you will have to raise the baby

It is acting that way because you are momma .. and it doesnt want to be alone
try finding a chick its age it will be better.
you can add a mirror and a small stuffed animal it will help some .
My 1st hatch acted the same way and would scream when I was out of sight .
I ended up taking the small box with me in the room I was in .
Hubby babysitt when I had to leave the house .
she even took a shower with me ...she wasnt happy coz she couldnt see me .
She went around the shower curtain and hopped right in .
This is Markers 1st shower
marker.jpg she screamed after coz she was freezing & wet . I had to blow dry her warm .She grew up to be my special hen ..
marker .jpg As I held her alot her 1st days .. she wanted to be held always . she would come up to me and give me a peck to be picked up . After she passed her hatch Sister Blondie Now does the same thing . she never did it ..when Marker was alive though . the 2 of them grew up together - Sat on my lap , rode in my butt pack ..Got the mommy treatment

We don't have a separate area for them, so I'm Judy gong to raise it. Thankfully I work from home and can be around all day.

Oh my goodness, what kind is that white chicken with black spots? I had 2 identical to her and never found out the breed!

I have heard using a feather duster or feather boa can work if you're not around, the chick can cuddle up to it and thinks it's another chicken. Mirrors work too I think?

I had a chick that wouldnt eat and i made a soupy mix of the chick starter...ate it up. Eadier to go down i suppose. Hope his buddy hatches soon. As others have stated, feather boas, n plus animals to snuggle to will help with loneliness. Also put a mirror in the brooder.
Sometimes I have to make it dust, then they'll eat it lol. As long as he's drinking that's a good sign :)

I gave my chicks to my broody, 6 from feed store, one she hatched. I took her unhatched egg in the house and kept it warm in my bra until the incubator was running now the delayed egg is currently hatching.
