So, whenever I stay with my chicks for a while, they seem to get nervous and flap their wings and run to follow each other. Other than this, everything is normal. Does this ever happen?

Mine are terrified of me until they mature, most by 6-8 months start to be less wary. If handled gently when young they become very friendly. I personally just handle my chicks to move them around. My adult hens have no fear of me and run up to me often, some I can catch and pick up easily. As babies they act like I'm king Kong.

I think its just normal exercising of the wing muscles.
Young birds like to "fly" about. Its a way to strengthen their wing muscles and practice "flying". A form of play if you will.

Totally normal....all my birds do that, young and old.
I think it's just 'exercise'....when my birds are afraid they runaway, hide, and/or cluster together, not flap their wings.
