So my chicks are 7 and 8 weeks old and fully feathered and in the coop for first time tonight. The wind really kicked in all of a sudden and they are freaking out! I had five chicks jump into my arms so scared are they. It is plenty warm and the coop is brand new and very sturdy so other than noise from the wind, this thing isn't gonna blow away. I want to put them in the brooder over night, but my husband thinks they need to get used to it sometime. Should I just leave em out there? I am worried they will hurt themselves:(

The wind has died down some and I cannot hear any more crying:( so hopefully they will settle in. My husband and I are planning to plant some stuff to block the wind. It was 84 today, so perfect day to transition to the coop..... Hmmmmm
Thanks for your quick reply, I feel clueless sometimes.

This is the coop when it was nice and sunny today, a little way from the house, but we have some solar lights on it.

Do you have lights on while they are sleeping or do they turn off? I have mine on a timer that shuts it off at 2 or 4 hours after dark Christmas light time with a photoeye..

My chicks go out at about 3 -4 weeks of age. no heat lamp.

I have just a small solar light on outside right now. Should stay on all night. Hope that is helping them feel more secure. Stressful!!!

So I just checked on them this morning and they are all looking normal except for one chick is off by itself and all puffed up. She is eating little bits but not as much as the others. Any ideas what might be the problem? She is fully feathered and was fine yesterday;(
I gave them all some warm oatmeal and they loved that.

I brought her inside, she is just sleeping all the time. She hasn't eaten anything and/or taken any water other than a syringe full. I am worried she got trampled in the frenzy last night. There are no outward signs of injury, just closing one eye constantly (also no injury seen there).

So, based on this website I have started all the chicks on corid. doesn't hurt to be on the safe side right? I will keep her nice and quiet and see how things progress. I hope she will recover:(

Thanks
