my chicks (about a week old) keep getting water on their chests when they drink water. it doesn't seem to be bothering them all that much, but it happens. is this normal for chicks? are my babies just a bit stupid? should I be worried?

First week or so, add marbles to the water dish. They can’t walk in it then, and it limits the large pool of water. After that time period, you can remove the marbles. I wouldn’t use rocks unless very clean - whatever might be in the rock will leavh into the water.

Marbles are easily found in Walmart toy aisle (usually with the hanging small toys), our sometimes dollar store.

You don’t want them to get wet early on bc they can’t really keep warm very well, and being wet allows them to get cold faster. If they do get too wet , then gently blot dry, place under heat lamp in their brooder.
