That Buff that went missing from our flock a month ago, we thought she was a goner.

But whoops, there she was, hiding in the tall grass, sittin on some eggs!

Found her today, she's pissy as ever (moreso!) and has eggs and chicks under her. By the smell, and the flies, there's either a rotten egg or a dead baby under her, but we didn't want to disturb her too much.

So now what? Leave her alone (she's done fine for near a month now) or do we need to do something with her, the eggs, the chicks....??

We call her "Broody Judy with the bad attitude-y". What do ya'll think?

I'd wait until dark then gather her up with whatever live fuzzy butts she has and put her in a coop by herself with the babies, otherwise you risk losing her and the babies to some predator lured close by the smell!!

I think that is a very good idea. I would also move the eggs with her as well. Only the ones that look promising.

How would I know which ones look promising? WE have never hatched or anything, and besides, aren't we doing this at night?

Smell them, and if any eggs are weeping, toss them as far as you can as fast as you can! You can also try candling them out there and looking for clear eggs or blood rings.
