First time chicken mom here. I have BLRW chicks of varying ages. My babies were pooping blood so I treated them for Coccidiosis with one week of Corid. Everyone seems good but I read here on BYC that it's a good idea to give them probiotics after treatment. I got the Sav-a Chick probiotic and gave it to them yesterday and today. Is that long enough? How long do you veterans recommend?

A chicken's first line of defense in its immune system is the gut.

A healthy gut needs proper flora. For that, I use a feed that has probiotics in it (as well as prebiotics). I also regularly keep apple cider vinegar (raw, with mother) in the water (just a tsp per quart, tablespoon per gallon, plastic only). The "mother" in ACV feeds the probiotics in the gut.

So for me, I like to keep them on probiotics (yogurt daily or in feed) and ACV pretty much all the time to keep their guts optimal.

So, I would use the Chick Saver probiotics for at least a couple of weeks then get into a regular routine of regularly supplying that either in the feed supplementing as well with ACV in the water.

My thoughts
