These other comments are great I agree with the not heating the whole area we dont want chicks to drink hot water! Ive been raising chicks for a while now and I always put a few small rocks in the water to keep them from drowning. but make sure they can get to water. I also use news paper but I put pine NEEDLES on top a few years back I incubated some chicks and they looked like they were doing the splits. They couldnt stand, they were not getting traction. so the pine needles straightened them up! I also got a butter bowl lid and put their food on it was easy for them to see and it reduced messes with the ridge on it. I also recommend interacting with them. I love playing mamma chicken! i use my finger and tap on a piece of food mimicking a mother hen showing the chick what to eat and they go over and gobble it right up. They will do the same with water. I also feed them treats such as pieces of peaches and the lime green baby grasshoppers I find in the yard they love them! warning wait 2 weeks before you start feeding them too big of grasshoppers!

They are so cute & I love how you already have their names.

Told myself today I am going up to our coops with a piece of paper writing down the names. I have given a few names but I got so many within a 2 month period (24 teenagers in 3 different coops, 9 in brooder( they will have to wait for names a few more weeks, can't tell them apart yet) & of course the 6-7 I expect to hatch) that I just couldn't keep it straight. I am starting to tell the difference between most and want to be creative w/the names.

Good luck to ya & keep us posted with pics.

Hope to share some pics. of my 1st hatchlings in 2-3days : )
