Chicks in 3 days... Freaking out.

They are so cute & I love how you already have their names.

Told myself today I am going up to our coops with a piece of paper writing down the names. I have given a few names but I got so many within a 2 month period (24 teenagers in 3 different coops, 9 in brooder( they will have to wait for names a few more weeks, can't tell them apart yet) & of course the 6-7 I expect to hatch) that I just couldn't keep it straight. I am starting to tell the difference between most and want to be creative w/the names.

Good luck to ya & keep us posted with pics.

Hope to share some pics. of my 1st hatchlings in 2-3days : )
haa haa true I have 7 teenagers that are getting their adult feathers now. I think 5 are Roos!!! Have 7 more 2 months old that I have no idea what they are yet. And five that are a week old. Mine dont get names till they are grown and have made it through a fox raid. My bantys free range all the time. They refuse to roost in their house. So the smart ones get names. :)

Yo burrill - I hope they all make it through the fox raid. I haven't gotten the nerve up yet to start letting mine free range, thus why we built VERY large covered coops/run but one day I do plan to let them roam in a chain-linked fenced off area (@ a 1/4 acre, old garden spot).

I'm thinking of picking up a used copy of "Names for Your New Baby" =

, but really!

I have so many chickens that look alike.. So the roos get names, and the girls who have some distinguishing feature get names, but all of my SLW are named dotty...I know- not very original, but it keeps me sane :)

Good to hear!!!! All the "girls" are growing up fast!!! I can't really say abbacies anymore, because they are 6 weeks old today!!!

Here are the latest pictures of the girls... THIS MORNING. Today was their first real time outside... They seemed to have a lot of fun playing in the garden!

Well hello there Daisy!

Nestle really likes playing with "her" chickens!

I have raised chickens for quite some time but I am still unsure when they can be taken from under a light. I usually wait until they get feathered or almost fully feathered. Can anyone tel me about when they can safely be out from under the light?

At 6 weeks or fully feathered, even on the head.

For wintertime I usually go about 8 weeks or longer depending on temperature.
