I have a new coop that I think is pretty nice and secure. It's still very warm during the day here in SC. Is it ok to let my Chicks spend some time during the day in the coop? They are dying to run and flap and play and scratch around and the nursery is getting to small, fast. The Chicks are about three weeks old or so. I'm new to this and need advice and reassurance! And also any other advice about chicks and the whole process will be appreicated greatly!!!! Thanks for any Advice!!!!!!!!

I have six four week old EEs and I've let them out into their run when it's warm enough for the last week, they love it. They have lived in their coop for a week as well. As long as it's secure and warm enough, let them run. I think if they're three weeks old they can tolerate temps as low as 75 degrees (but check that out).

Three week old chicks can tolerate temps. of 80 to 85 degrees, a little less in a secure, draft free coop. If you can provide that they can be out.

I am a little north of you and my chicks are 3.5 weeks old. They have been going out daily for a week and a half. I wait till 9-10 so that most of the morning dew is gone off the grass in the "play pen". They run, they play, they eat/drink, they sleep, and start it all over again. They get taken back in at night, but the outside exposure is really speeding up the feather growth. By the end of the day they are exhausted and have been sleeping most of the night in the brooder even with the light on.
