They are so darn cute! Alert- cheaping away. Reed called on the the 31st to let me know they were shipped. I calle dthe PO to alert them so they would call me asap. This is my first time having chicks and I'm so excted!!
My brother ordered some too- so we are going to have to figure out who's are who's lol

Right now I have them in my dogs old crate, pine shaving the food and water and the red bulbed lamp over head. They have all been eating and drinking - pecking a little at each other - and they are together under the lamp but not huddled at all. None of them seems listless or unhealthy. Can they just suddenly get sick?

When I took them out one at a time I showed both dogs- my shepherd was trying to licking them LOL. Even our 'hunter' kitten doesn't seem interested anymore. She's upstairs sleeping, guess the thrill is already gone.

I only wish there was a way to tell each chick apart, some look the same and we only have 3 kinds that are paired.

I can't post pics or I would

Happy happy happy!

We got an assortment-
Australorp, Lt. Brahma, White Cochin, GL Cochin, Dominique
2 Welsummer, SL Wyandotte, 2 Easter Egger, 2 Buff Brahma, 2 GL Wyandotte and a Barnevelder

I am trying to figure out why my camera won't upload the pics- I may have to wait for my tech savvy daughter LOL

I think I can tell the White Cochin, the Welsummers and the Eater Eggers. My brother has a chicken book with chick pics. I can wait for them to feather out to see what they are too. If he has mine or vice versa we can just exchange.

It's finally gorgeous here after all the flooding, we are in RI, and I can't seem to peel myself away from watching them LOL

chickensducks&agoose :

We dyed our chicks to tell them apart.. like Yellow chick with blue head dot... or yellow chick with NO dot... or yellow chick with left wing dot....

How did you dye them? I would love to know.

Blue foodcoloring and a swab. I don't use red, encourages pecking.. but blue and green are good and visable, unless your chick is black... but then you can get a bit of glue, and glue a speck of dark colored paper (blue, purple) to their back... elmers works good... If there's too much contrast, sometimes they will pick.
