I got the call this morning from the post office. The baby chicks are here. They are our first chicks, and we were amazed at how fast they found the food and water. We put the beak of each one in the water nipple, and almost immediately they started pecking at them to get more water. The brooder is in the coop with 14 other chickens that we just adopted. The brooder has a top on it and is vented on all sides with wire mesh, so there is no way the adults can get to the chicks.
I was told to leave the chicks alone for about 24 hours before handling them. They have plenty of food and water. Is leaving them alone for 24 hours good advice?
Other than the sticky butt, is there anything else I need to watch for?
